Downtown landscape artwork installed by the Parliament Arts Organization currently on display in the windows of the Yorktowne Hotel.

In the wake of the recent announcement that the historic Yorktowne Hotel in the heart of downtown York is now a part of Hilton hotel chain’s Tapestry Collection, the interior design team is seeking local York County artists and artisans to help create elements throughout the property that reflect the spirit and history of York.

The Yorktowne Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton will feature 121 guest rooms with two floors of one-bedroom suites tailored for extended-stay and executive guests; a circular arrival plaza along the hotel’s south side that will offer accessible entry to the hotel lobby; new elevators; and a full-service restaurant and cafe.

“The Tapestry Collection by Hilton brand allows the unique personality of its properties to shine through,” stated Jack Kay, Chairman of the York County Industrial Development Authority (YCIDA). “We want to utilize the creativity and talent of as many York County artists as we can to reflect York’s past, present, and positive future throughout the space.”

As part of the renovation of the Yorktowne Hotel, the York County Industrial Development Authority and the interior design team are looking to local artists and artisans to provide proposals on artistic and fixture elements throughout the planned public spaces.

The YCIDA is partnering with the Cultural Alliance of York County to reach out to local artists, craftspeople, and artisans to ensure that local skills are utilized on the project. “We want to be able to walk through the finished Yorktowne in late 2019 and point to everything from outdoor public art to numbers on the room doors and know that artists in York County helped to create it;” stated Mary Anne Winkelman, President of the Cultural Alliance.   “Those touches will tell the York story throughout the Yorktowne Hotel.”

Those interested in having their work as part of the interior design of the Yorktowne Hotel can sign up using the form below or contact the Cultural Alliance at 717-812-9255. Deadline to submit your information is June 22, 2018.
