Operational Funding

At the Cultural Alliance of York County we believe in the importance of funding arts and culture organizations to do the great work they set out to do. Operational funds are often the most challenging to find, yet are vital to the strength and strategic growth of any organization .

“These are the projects that truly moved the Symphony forward as an institution and dramatically increased our community impact.  Without those operating dollars, the YSO would be like running on a hamster wheel—burning a lot of calories, but never really getting anywhere.” – Michael Reichman, York Symphony Orchestra

Beginning in 2020 and beyond, the new model of the Cultural Alliance will focus on providing operational funding to a broader network of partners.

Mission Partners

Our Mission partners will be the heart of our organization.   These are our long standing partners who have either been with us since the beginning, or have received operational funding from us for at least 3 years and have been invited to apply for Mission Partner. These organizations continually maintain a high standard of excellence in their offerings and are pillars in the community.  In 2020, Mission partnerships will only be open to our current funding partners.

Impact Partners

Arts and culture organizations in York County who have been in existence for 3 years may apply for a 1 year Impact Partnership to receive operational funding. We look forward to opening our doors to a variety of new partnerships to extend the reach of our operational funding and bolster our connections to the many arts organizations in York County doing great work.

PA Partners in the Arts

Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) is a partnership between local organizations and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA). Operating in all 67 Pennsylvania counties, PPA Partners re-grant PCA funds to support a wide variety of local and community arts activities. PPA goals include:

  • Expanding constituent access to the arts by (a) making arts programs available to communities that may have been underserved in the past by state arts funding, and (b) supporting a wide variety of arts activities in communities, developed in a variety of local settings.
  • Encouraging and supporting local decision making in regranting of arts dollars.
  • Increasing awareness of and advocacy for government support and funding for the arts at the local and state levels.
  • Enabling the PCA to provide increased assistance to its broad constituency throughout the state.

The Cultural Alliance distributes two streams of funding from the PCA in York, Adams, Franklin, and Fulton counties. These are called “Program Stream” and “Entry to Program Stream”.  Read below for a description of each.

Program Stream
Program Stream provides funding for organizations who have previously received PCA funding and would like to apply again, or who have been invited to apply.

Entry to Program Stream
Entry to Program Stream is for organizations or programs with average annual revenue of less than $200,000.  Generally, grant amounts will range from $2,000 to $3,000, and grant funds may be used for operations, programs, or projects.
