Make Music Day celebrates and promotes the natural music maker in all of us, regardless of ability, by providing free events to the public throughout the day. Make Music Day events turn sidewalks and streets into impromptu stages; lets amateur musicians share their passion and gain confidence; and gives established artists in all genres a chance to perform for new audiences.
Each year hundreds of cities throw citywide music celebrations on June 21st where community members of all musical skill levels come together to create music. “Unlike a normal music festival everyone, regardless of skill level, ability or age, is invited to join and create music.” John Gerdy executive director said, “MFE believes in the importance of community building through the power of music. Make Music Day is a perfect example of an event that can bring people together through that power. We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Make Music Alliance and our York counterparts across the Susquehanna to make this event happen.”
Events will occur throughout the day in both Lancaster and York cities. All events will be free and open to the public to participate in. “Music and other cultural events have the unique ability to bring us together as a community”, says Rita Whitney of the York County Cultural Alliance, “we are grateful for the opportunity to bring this collaborative and interactive event to York.”
In York City, the York Make Music Day committee will be organizing events like open mic’s, drum circles, make your own instrument sessions for kids, kazoo and harmonica play along and more. Visit www.york365.com to view a list of Make Music Day events. Events will continue to be added up until the day of the event.
