On December 12, 1924, Arthur J. Glatfelter was born in Loganville, Pennsylvania.  In addition to founding Glatfelter Insurance in 1951 and growing it into one of the largest privately-owned insurance brokers in the United States, Art was a passionate philanthropist and advocate in his community.  Through his vision and dedication to the community Art founded the Cultural Alliance of York County in 1999 for the primary purpose of raising and distributing funds each year to the County’s essential arts and culture organizations.

It was a mission he believed in wholeheartedly, and he dedicated tremendous resources, time, and energy to promote the Cultural Alliance, serving as our very first Board Chair and working to grow our annual campaign as our Campaign Co-Chair.  Art still continues that strong support today. Through the Arthur J. and Lee R. Glatfelter Foundation, Art continues to bring arts and culture to life in York County as one of the largest funders to the Cultural Alliance annual campaign and operational endowment.

To honor and celebrate his commitment on what would have been his 94th birthday, the Cultural Alliance of York County Board of Directors passed a resolution that formally recognizes December 12th as ARTHUR J. GLATFELTER DAY, a holiday to celebrate his service to the Cultural Alliance and his lasting dedication to bringing arts and culture to life in York County.

Please join us in celebrating one of the most generous champions of York County by wishing everyone you see a happy Arthur J. Glatfelter day!
