Cultural Alliance Seeks Director of Communications and Engagement

The Cultural Alliance is looking to hire a full-time Director of Communications and Engagement, responsible for creating and maintaining a positive image of the Cultural Alliance of York County.  This position will be responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing communications programs to effectively describe and promote our mission and vision.  Areas of focus are all sources of communication to the community.  This position reports to the President.


This individual is responsible for the following core duties:

  • Create and manage all communication channels and lead all media relations to position the Cultural Alliance as the leader of the arts and culture sector;
  • Represent the Cultural Alliance’s mission, vision, values, and goals in person, online, and in print;
  • Develop the Cultural Alliance printed collateral including the impact report to the community, campaign materials, and promotional materials;
  • Maintain all on-line presence including, but not limited to online calendar, Listening Project, primary website, subsidiary websites; contribute to design and architecture of current and any future websites;
  • Write and distribute media materials such as press releases; editorial pitches, and op-ed submissions and liaising with press and monitoring value of coverage;
  • Manage all public campaign and promotional events of the Cultural Alliance, including sponsorship recruitment and retention, volunteer coordination, and impact reporting;
  • Produce all media content including but not limited to promotional videos, audio, e-newsletters and electronic campaigns, and visual images;
  • Oversee all social media platforms and strategize related vision;
  • Travel to and attend necessary and relevant community meetings, conferences, symposiums;
  • Expand the capacity of the Cultural Alliance by managing the internship program at the organization;
  • Additional duties as required;


This individual may be the public’s first point of contact to the Cultural Alliance and therefore must be someone with strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to troubleshoot, think creatively, and represent the Cultural Alliance effectively are key attributes. This individual will be an integral part of the team and must possess the following:

  • Meticulous organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage budgets, and keep timely correspondence;
  • A “team player” who understands the dynamics of working within a small, productive staff that is constantly dependent on and accountable to one another;
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the means to address issues in a non-confrontational way, but nevertheless with determination; a track record as an effective communicator; the presence and credibility to serve as an effective spokesperson for the Cultural Alliance;
  • A “doer” with a willingness to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of activities ranging from the internal day-to-day to the highly creative; an energetic, alert, hardworking person, able to take immediate action when necessary;
  • Demonstrate maturity, curiosity, and a sense of humor; is at ease with collaborating both internally with staff and externally with public entities;
  • Ability to work effectively with an extremely diverse community


  • At least three to five years full-time work experience in Communications
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Experience with Adobe, Microsoft, and various related software and social media platforms


– This position is full-time, and maintains 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) as well as special events occasionally evenings/weekends
