The Cultural Alliance is committed to forging new and innovative pathways of support for York County’s creative sector. By partnering with like-minded organizations, we can amplify and diversify funding opportunities for artistic and cultural programming in our community.
Four years ago, we partnered with Downtown Inc. to administer their Welcoming Communities Grant Program in York City, an initiative developed to foster and catalyze events and programs that create welcoming and connected communities. Funded by Better York, the Powder Mill Foundation, and the York County Community Foundation
In 2021, we were presented with a “happy” challenge in the form of a record number of applications to the Welcoming Communities program. Rather than restrict funding to a small percentage of applicants, the Cultural Alliance proactively sought two additional funding sources to increase the number of funded projects and expand the opportunity beyond York City.
Thanks to generous funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the William J. Warehime Foundation, we were able to work alongside Downtown Inc. and Main Street Hanover to encourage project proposals from across York County.
Collaboration and no small amount of creativity made this project expansion possible. By working in partnership with other like-minded organizations and funders, we can help amplify financial support for our arts community and those who enjoy the fruits of their labor!
