We're kicking off CelebrateARTS week of free events with the first-ever silent disco in York! Join us on Saturday, January 13th at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts Studio to get your headphones and take part in York's first soundless dance celebration! Silent disco is a unique way of experiencing live music – Guests wear wireless headphones and a silent atmosphere instantly transforms in to a high energy musical performance. Audio/Visual artists Aortic Valve will be spinning the music and projecting video to make it a truly immersive experience. Dancers from Greater York Dance and Midstate Ballet will open the silent disco with a performance perfectly timed to the music in your ears-and guaranteed to get your feet moving! Don't miss this sight/sound experience premiering in York for the first time! Doors open at 7:30pm, and the party goes on until 11pm!   The Silent Disco Dance Party is part of CelebrateARTS: a free community cultural celebration January 13-20! The goal of CelebrateARTS! is to provide citizens of all ages the opportunity to participate in cultural experiences to improve our overall community stability and vitality, and build lasting connections with one another without cost being a barrier. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Featuring displays of fine art, songs of resistance and triumph, powerful spoken-word performance, hands-on children's activities and soul cuisine, you will also hear the words of Dr. King through the voices of some of York's most dynamic and passionate community leaders as they reflect on the meaning and inspiration of Dr. King's work and it's continued necessity in our daily lives. CelebrateARTS! Magic at the Museum Family Day

We're wrapping up our CelebreateARTS! week with a magical day for magicians and muggles alike! Join us for our free Harry-Potter themed family day on January 20th! Get sorted into your house, meet Professor Snape, and learn the patronus spell... [more+]
We're wrapping up our CelebreateARTS! week with a magical day for magicians and muggles alike! Join us for our free Harry-Potter themed family day on January 20th! Get sorted into your house, meet Professor Snape, and learn the patronus spell from Professor Lupin. Potions, charms, and muggle history await at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum.   Some of the day’s activities include:
  • Have class with Professor Snape at 11, 12, and 1. Illusionist Vick Gisin portrays Professor Snape.
  • Make a wand.
  • Mix potions for science that seems almost magic!
  • Complete a scavenger.
  • Learn a traditional Pennsylvania German charm or potion.
  • Discover how brooms were made and make your own broomstick pencil.
  • Decorate a “dragon egg” ornament and learn about traditional scratch-carved eggs.
  • Create your own tea blend to use for Professor Trelawney’s divination class.
  • Write with quills, just like Harry, Hermione, and Ron.
